Technology is a big part of our life, I realised that without computer skills I would only be a number in society. In 2004 I was a volunteer at BYAA when I came across an advertisement stating that those who want to be part of the computer skills course will be free but preference will be given to applicants from disadvantaged families. When Nan Hua Temple first introduced the computer course, my people doubted the quality and validity of the course. I applied and after an interview on the later stages I was accepted. The course started in 2005 and was part of the first group and was fortunate enough to pass and graduate. In 2006 I applied at a nursing college in Pretoria which were looking for a clerk. They tested me because they had doubts about the certificate and even today, my current employer questioned the certificate. On later stages some of my superiors asked where did I get my certificate because my knowledge on computers was on the highest level. Even to those who studied at a recognised institution will ask me for assistance.
Today I am a highly recognized language practitioner and is employed by the Department of Justice as a court interpreter. Computer skills is one of the requirements to be an interpreter because your work include typing of statistics, if you do not have this skill you will not even be considered. Today the course is fully registered with SETA and that serves as plus factor to those who want to go further with their careers.
