My name is Lindiwe and I am from Rethabiseng, a relatively poor township near the Nan Hua Buddhist Temple in Bronkhorstspruit. I finished high school in 2003 and then started to work as a cashier in a fast food restaurant. I soon realised that my lack of computer knowledge was preventing me to get a better job.
Like many others in my township, we did not have access to a computer, but I did not allow this to stop me from learning. This in fact motivated me to join the Nan Hua Academy which helped me become computer literate. In the first three months I did not only learn about basic computer skills but also Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. I was happy for this opportunity because I did not have money to go and study somewhere else.
Afterwards I came back to the academy to do Comptia A+. I wrote the International Exam for Microsoft Office Specialist and passed Word, Excel and Power Point. When I received my certificate I was very happy because I knew this would brighten my future.
I am now a Presenter and Newsreader at the local community radio station in Nkongala. The show is aimed at youths with topics on entertainment, encouragement and uplifting the community. I encourage everyone to come to Nan Hua Academy to learn skills to brighten your futures.
