Course: Basic Computer Course
Living in rural areas in not the same as living in town or big cities. While living in big cities one has to have money all the time to survive but the good news is that one’s basic needs are available in stone throw distance, but this can not be said about rural areas. Here, in Kwa-Sokhulumi, life is very difficult, from the lack of basic needs to the lack of job opportunities.
Everything here is scarce; if one needs to get something, one has to travel 40 km away, for example to Bronkhorstspruit, to get it.
But in 2007, the shortage of skills and unemployment was coming to an end as the solution for these problems came in the form of computer literacy. Nan Hua Temple offered our community an equal chance of enrolment in its basic computer courses at Nan Hua Academy, free of charge. Many if not all of us joined the course in various terms in the year-long period. It was a life-changing experience, obtaining and holding the certificate, which recognizes me as one of the few unpriviledged people who have the ability to operate a computer.
The course helped me to get a job at our local clinic. I am currently busy with a home-based care, and I am proud of offering my services to our community members. I am also proud of using computer for proper record–keeping, as well as improving efficiency in our workplace.
I am very grateful to Nan Hua Temple for giving me this opportunity..
